How do you choose the right Air Conditioning unit?
Existing System
Homes with baseboard or radiant heating may not have duct work. To avoid expensive installation costs, one-room units or ductless mini-splits are the best options. This also applied for older homes, which most likely don’t have duct work.
Geographic Location
Average temperature, humidity, and overall climate affect the size, type, and economic value of the efficiency you choose. For example, a Florida resident might be better off investing in a more expensive, higher-efficiency model, but a Minnesota resident might not find that option as economical.
Different Types of AC Systems
- Split System and Package Air Conditioners – your standard central air conditioners.
- Ductless Mini – perfect for cooling homes that do not have ductwork.
- Portable, Window, and Wall Units – perfect for cooling one room in your house or apartment.
- Evaporative Coolers – these are also known as swamp coolers. They remove heat using evaporation and work most effectively in dry climates.
